In this ecological film processing workshop, participants will use marigolds and impatiens to develop black and white film. This process uses caffenol as a guide, creating a solution of washing soda and vitamin C. The use of natural materials in this darkroom process minimizes health risks and environmental impact.
The first day of this workshop will focus on the creation of floral-based eco-developers and the hands-on processing of film negatives. Day two of the workshop will focus on the printing of negatives developed during the previous day. Other discussions throughout the workshop will include the characteristics of effective plants for film development, ethical harvesting standards, and tips for experimenting with eco-developers.
Participants are asked to bring their own B&W negatives to develop and will be able to take their printed pieces home.
Participants are asked to bring the following:
Each participant is required to bring a finished roll of 35mm or 120 format, or 4x5 large format black & white film to develop
A notebook or phone for notes (optional)
A USB for digital scans (optional)
