PLATFORM is pleased to present “The Bestiary” by Calgary based artist, Mireille Perron.

OPENING RECEPTION | 7:00pm Oct 10, 2003

EXHIBITION | Oct 10 - Nov 21, 2003

“The Bestiary: Instincts of the Herd” is inspired by the late Argentinean author, Jorge Luis Borges’ fictive classification system. In “The Language of John Wilkins” Other Inquisitions 1937-52, Borges explores the incongruity of classification. “The Bestiary: Instincts of the Herd” consists of sixty-two cyanotypes (an ancient photographic process). For the exhibition Perron will include a site-specific work based on Leo Mol’s ‘Young Europa’, located in Assiniboine Park. The sculpture is an allegorical monument based on the myth of the rape of Europa by Zeus who transforms himself into a bull.

“The Bestiary” marks the first exhibition at PLATFORM under direction of Tracy Valcourt as the new Programming Coordinator. Tracy joins PLATFORM after holding a shared position of the same title at the St. Norbert Arts Centre. Former Director, Charles Shilliday continues to be involved with the gallery as an independent curator responsible for an international project between PLATFORM and Academy Gallery in Belgrade.
