PLATFORM centre is pleased to present Glass Factory in Gallery 2 from Winnipeg based artist Rachael Thorleifson (MB).

Glass Factory is a manifestation of grief; objects which out-live people, becoming proxies for the life they were once an accessory too.
With images, objects and light this project examines the circumstances of deaths within my family while investigating connections between pollution of the environments we live in and the circumstances which define my family’s history: my grandfather’s career in the glass industry, the glass heirlooms he collected, which I inherited, and the rare ailment my aunt lived with in the years before she died, which caused glass-like calcium build up in her body to push through her skin like crystals.

Glass Factory draws connections between coincidence and cause, attempting to make sense of personal narratives within a larger social and environmental context.

Dedicated to my aunt who found beauty and magic in everything.

PLATFORM is an accessible venue. For the duration of the exhibition, PLATFORM centre will be open by appointment only Wednesday and Thursday 11-4, and on a drop-in basis Friday and Saturday 11-4. BIOGRAPHY

Rachael Thorleifson is an artist making objects and images about relationships between self, family, places and things. She is a founder of Blinkers, a non-profit project space based in Winnipeg on Treaty 1 territory, where she was a co-director until August 2021.
